Rates
Waisman Computing Services (WCS) exist to support the various
missions of the Waisman Center and the faculty, staff and students
that carry them out. These services include e-mail, data storage,
security, internet access and web publishing, computer purchases,
installation, repair and consulting in all areas of information
technology. The costs of these services are recovered according
to the following rate schedule, of which many fees are subsidized.
Effective July 1, 2007 changes were made to the rates.
The WCS User Committee met on
May 30, 2007 to review a rate structure for fiscal year 2007-08,
which was later approved by the Waisman Center Executive
Committee. In general, most of the items in this rate structure
are adjustments to existing rates approved in December, 2003 and
later modified in September, 2006.
- Highlights include:
- The most significant change to the rate structure supports
free access to initial and routine help services by the
WCS Help Desk--now staffed by Heather Houfe, 890-1000.
- Fixed rates for PC Image Installation ($330),
Printer Installation ($45) and
Driver Installation ($25) which can be funded from
capital exercise allotments.
- As an incentive for users to upgrade computer equipment in
the most efficient and well-supported manner, the Image
Installation fee will be waived for new computer purchases
of qualifying
selected systems when a Pre Sales Consultation
has occurred.

NOTES:
-
At present, storage capacity is not a limiting factor in
deciding whether to maintain files on the network. However,
requests for large amounts of storage need to be anticipated
in advance to allow for the purchase of additional required
storage devices. All requests are subject to current budget
limitations.
-
Subsidies: There is no cost to NICHD-funded projects
listed on the core grant that are administered at the Waisman
Center for some fees (i.e. the core grant pays 100% of the cost).
UCEDD projects are given a 20% subsidy in those circumstances.
However, the source of funding chosen for a particular
connection must reflect the type and nature of work
being done using that connection in order to be defensible
during an audit.
-
The Laboratory Connection fee is subsidized if it
attaches equipment in an investigator's lab to the network as
described above. The Laboratory Connection fee for
equipment maintained by another core is not subsidized.
