Stereology

Stereology is a  method that allows the unbiased sampling of tissues for accurate counts or measurements of structures within tissue sections. The CMN Core has a Zeiss photomicroscope equipped with a high resolution digital camera, a high precision motorized stage, and a computer with the Stereo Investigator software package to investigators interested in performing stereologic analyses in their studies. Examples of common uses of stereology include performing cell counts, measuring the lengths of blood vessels, axons or other linear structures within tissues, and estimating volumes of cells, lesions, infarcts or other structures.
